creating CSS pages



To get started today I want you all to take a look at The Town Neck Co. website

This site was launched last week. In a google doc evaluate the site. Answer the following questions.

Do you find the site inviting Yes/No and why
What do you think of the colors?
What do you think of the fonts?
How do you feel about the roll over images on the home page?
Once you leave the home page do you know how to get back to it?
Would you feel confident ordering from this site Yes/No and why?

What are 5 things you can think of that would improve the site?

Share your responses with me by the end of class.

you can easily create and modify a CSS file using Dreamweaver the picture to your right will give an idea of where you should be looking for CSS info in Dreamweaver


We are going to be creating the Town Neck Co site.

By the end of today's class you should have a practice CSS file ready to go.

Focus your work today on fonts.

Fonts on websites are often overlooked. However it is the font that most people will notice first. Working with fonts and a CSS file can be very beneficial.

Career fair preview- careers in Web Design

Visit College Board this link will take you to the page on Web Design.
on this page there are the following questions


Answer are you ready to?
  • Design websites under deadline pressure
  • Master many software programs, such as PhotoShop
  • Create animated images and graphics
  • Use HTML
  • Use type and images expertly
  • Work closely with clients
Now click on the Web Development link on the right side of the page under Related Majors.
from there click on Find out now link under Which colleges offer a major in Web Development?

How many colleges offer the Web Development major?
Are there any in MA? How many?

Now do the same for the Digital Arts Link on the Web Design Page.
How many colleges offer the Digital Arts major?
Are there any in MA? How many?
Answer the questions in a Google doc saved a web design careers and share with me by the end of class.
2.Work on developing a proposal for a web site. You will all need to start working on a 4 page website next week. I am letting you choose the topic, it can be for a business, for a teacher, for a team, for a club or any other reasonable topic.
In your proposal include ideas for page topics. Resources you will need gather.

CSS- what does it stand for??? Must we use it??? How does Dreamweaver CS5 handle CSS?

When working with CSS is it better to have a separate file or to embed it into a HTML file

Review and working with Dreamweaver CS5

Review Project: Create a brief review website to get the creative juices flowing and familiarize ourselves with Dreamweaver CS5. CS5 is fairly new to the school.

Project Focus areas:
site set up
file management
CSS- review/intro??

For this project create a 4 page website on either the NBA All Star Game or the Academy Awards- two of my favorite things this time of year!
